🌛🌕Full moons happen once a month when the 🌞😎sun's rays fully illuminate the surface of the moon. The moon has no light of its own. When the moon is shining at its brightest and fullest, we are receiving maximum light and vitality as the sun's rays bounce off the surface.
While the energy of a full moon lasts for about three days before and three days after, the moon is technically only full for a moment—when the sun and the moon are directly opposite each other in the sky.
While the new moon is a time to set intentions for the future, the full moon is a time of culmination and fruition. Starting with the "dark" phase of the new moon, the lunar surface gathers light over a two week period, then manifests as a Full Moon.
Full Moon Names and Dates of 2025
January – Full Wolf Moon
- The howling of wolves was often heard at this time of year. Happening January 13th 2025
February – Full Snow Moon
- This month is typically a time of heavy snowfall. Happening February 12th 2025
March – Full Worm Moon
- This refers to a different sort of “worm”—larvae—which emerge from the bark of trees and other winter hideouts around this time. Happening March 14th 2025
April – Full Pink Moon
- This Moon heralded the appearance of “Moss Pink,” or wild “Creeping Phlox”-one of the first spring wildflowers. Happening April 12th 2025
May – Full Flower Moon
- Flowers spring forth in abundance this month. Happening May 12th 2025
June – Full Strawberry Moon
- This was the time to gather ripening strawberries in what is now the northeastern United States. Happening June 11th 2025
July – Full Buck Moon
- Now, a buck’s (male deer’s) antlers are in full growth mode. Happening July 10th 2025
August – Full Sturgeon Moon
- The Great Lakes and Lake Champlain sturgeon were said to be most readily caught during this full Moon. Happening August 9th 2025
September – Harvest Moon /Corn Moon
The Harvest Moon is the full Moon that occurs closest to the Autumnal Equinox. This time also corresponds with the traditional harvesting of corn. Happening September 7th 2025
October – Full Hunter’s Moon
This is the month when the game is fattened up for winter. Now is the time for hunting and laying in a store of provisions for the long months ahead. Happening October 6th 2025
November – Full Beaver Moon
This was the time when beavers finished preparations for winter and retreated into their lodges. Happening November 5th 2025
December – Full Cold Moon
This is the month when the winter cold fastens its grip, and the nights become long and dark. Happening December 4th 2025
